A simple Google search for the term "productivity" will come up with more than 500 million results.
The web is littered with stories of overnight success, incredible productivity, 19-year-old billionaires, and "entrepreneurs" who sleep 2 hours every night to "hustle" 18 hours per day.
We're constantly being bombarded by news snippets, beautiful images, and outlandish videos on the TV, the web, and on social networks of the successful and the elite; those select few who have reached the soaring peaks of success by making a few videos or by creating the latest technology startup.
The world isn't moving at the same pace it was 20 years ago and we're all aware of that but the constant blitz of of data, images, and news we're presented with daily is giving us a skewed picture of reality.
We're watching the sped-up version of the truth.
The result of this attack on our senses is that we're stuck in a constant state of frenzy and panic; we feel left out.
This state of frenzy keeps us looking for a quick way out or an overnight solution that will solve our problems once and for all. We search for the switch that will suddenly change our lives.
Instead of trying to follow a steady course of action that will eventually take us to our destination, we're distracted by the next shiny object.
Not that any of these ideas are bad. The main issue is that we see one shiny idea after another and chase them for a short while and just give up when we feel too disappointed to go on.
Another failure is added to our collection of failed badges.
The idea was even possibly one that we didn't care about a lot in the first place but seemed like a good one at the time.
Add to this the other struggles we face in our lives - the pandemic, quarantine, lockdowns, financial problems, taking care of family and loved ones, laundry, and cooking, and you have the perfect recipe for a meltdown.
It starts to feel like a nightmare where everything is speeding past us at supersonic speed and we're just sinking into the ground. Our legs are moving but we aren't going anywhere.

"The worst feeling in the world is to stop believing in yourself, in your future."
We used to dream big when we were kids. Some of us wanted to be astronauts, racecar drivers, doctors, nurses.
We start asking ourselves:
Is this all that life has in store for us? Have I reached the summit of my life? Should I just accept my current situation?

I've been fighting these same battles myself for several years and I have plenty of battle scars to show for it but that doesn't mean I'm even close to winning the war on personal productivity.
I still struggle with panic, doubt, procrastination, energy drops, laziness, fear of failure, and the ever-present shiny object syndrome.
But I've developed a thicker hide and I've created systems that help keep me in the fight, allowing me to win more than I lose.
You'll never defeat procrastination or doubt completely; they'll eventually rear their ugly heads when you're at your most vulnerable. But by building a productivity system that is customized to your needs, you'll have a more powerful weapon in your arsenal. Using the system you've created, you'll fail less and you'll get back on your feet faster.
It's like "The Walking Dead" series where you'll take three steps forward and fall one step back. Then you'll take four steps and fall two steps back. All this time, you're building a thicker hide, developing your productivity muscles, and increasing your focus and consistency.
